Petit, Rule 5 Draft and Detroit Tigers
Digest more
The Detroit Tigers failed to protect a top-30 pitching prospect in the Rule 5 Draft and saw him selected first overall.
The Tigers, for the third year in a row, opted not to make a pick in the Major League Rule 5 draft. They were quite active, though, in the Triple-A portion of the draft, selecting four right-handed pitchers: Luke Taggert from the Rockies, Jan Caraballo from the Giants, John Stankiewicz from the Twins and Yandy Gomez from the Angels.
The Rockies selected Petit with the first pick in the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.
The Detroit Tigers’ intimidating top 30 prospect has been left unprotected for a second year, and he just might fit Boston’s needs.
