The New England Patriots have surprised everyone this season, and now have a chance to clinch the division on Sunday in an AFC East showdown against the Buffalo Bills. And with that, the Patriots had some time to rest and get healthy coming off the bye week after having won 10 straight games.
As of Monday, the Patriots are currently the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a record of 10-2. They moved up in the standings thanks to the Colts, who lost in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Denver Broncos, who were on their bye this week, are now sitting at No. 2 in the AFC playoffs with a 9-2 mark.
The Rams, Patriots, and Broncos are the three clubs that can clinch a postseason berth this week. For Los Angeles, it’s simple: Win and you’re in. The Rams can only secure the NFC’s first playoff spot, with the NFC West still up for grabs between L.A., Seattle, and San Francisco. Things are a little more complicated for two AFC teams.
The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots lead the AFC, each with an 11-2 record and a 10-game winning streak. Jacksonville leads the AFC South, but Houston and Indianapolis are only one game behind. Houston is on a five-game winning streak and moved into the AFC's seventh spot.
The Patriots are going to need help from the Denver Broncos' remaining opponents in order to overtake them for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
